Restoring Northeast Oregon’s Premiere Entertainment Venue
Supporting the arts.
The Liberty Theatre first opened its doors in 1910 as a venue for live performances. It later became a movie house and screened the classics of the day right up to its closure in 1959. It was a central icon in the landscape of downtown La Grande, and served as a special entertainment space for many generations. In 2009, a group of La Grande citizens came together to form a nonprofit organization with the goal of restoring the Liberty. The Liberty Theatre Foundation became an independent nonprofit, 501(c)3 organization in 2012. Its mission is to restore the theater as a performing arts center and cinema, providing cultural and educational experiences to La Grande and surrounding communities throughout northeast Oregon.
“The Liberty Theatre Foundation proudly thanks our generous grantors, donors and community members for helping to make this project move from a dream to a reality. Our level of excitement builds with each passing construction milestone, and we are honored to restore the Liberty Theatre as the premier entertainment venue of La Grande and northeast Oregon”
